The festive season is upon us and here in Sydney we're heading for a hot xmas day and even hotter boxing day.
As the year wraps up I'd like to say a very heartfelt thank you to all of you who have become a reader of Harry's World, and/or who are a follower of my blogs via social media or directly here on my website.

Harry's World has been steadily growing a following, and it was really great to reach the stage of ordering the second print run a couple of weeks back.  Very exciting indeed!

The big news for 2017 is that PI Harry Kenmare will be back!  He'll be swinging into action again with his ladies, especially Tanya and Sasha, and his trusty mate, Trev.  In Harry's Quest there will be further juicy exposés of crime and corruption (Sydney at its seediest), and Harry will be looking for vengeance for his Orla.  The hunt is on!  And it will get bloody!
Expect Harry's Quest around June 2017.

The other news for 2017 is that I will be blogging far more regularly, so expect to hear from me a lot more on all sorts of subjects!

My very best wishes to all for a happy and safe festive season, and for a wonderful new year in 2017.

Cheers,
ABP

DISGRACE! The vengeful assault on the Independent Commission Against Corruption.

I spent several years as a Chief Investigator at the ICAC, and I loved the work we did. The amount of entrenched corruption in the New South Wales public sector, both state government and local government, is truly staggering. If you are a taxpayer/ratepayer, you genuinely have cause to despair.
At the ICAC, we did what we could and we did a lot of good work, within the constraints we had. Frankly, the ICAC could do with being a lot bigger than it is - there is no shortage of work for it.
And being truly independent is vital. And I mean TRULY independent.

Yet now, the NSW Premier has taken a butcher's knife to the ICAC and its Commissioner.
Make no mistake, all of the recent castration of the ICAC by the State government is a direct payback for the outstanding work the Commission did in relation to exposing all the corruption in both major political parties in relation to financial donations.
Do not be fooled by the pretence that the changes now proceeding were the result of the ICAC's investigation of a state prosecutor - all of that story is a fancy sideshow, convenient to the government to provide a smokescreen for its true motives.

The changes are payback, pure and simple.

The ICAC took on both the major political parties, exposed their inherent corruption, and now revenge is being served up.
This would be a pitiful comment on our democracy at any time, but at a time when so many of our citizens view our political system with disdain and contempt, as utterly ruined and contemptible, and rightly so, it is nothing short of tragic.
The NSW Premier and his government should forever be viewed as Santa and his elves for those who crave corruption in the future - it will be so much easier for them as a result of the neutering of the ICAC.

And all in the month a former politician went to jail, as a result of an ICAC investigation.
They really don't like to be held accountable, do they?!!!

O such arboreal beauty - the purple and the red!  Sydney in spring!

I posted recently on the jacarandas around here; it is that glorious time of year in Sydney.
But there is a double treat on offer!
The jacarandas are beautiful enough, but their flowering time is matched by the fantastic Illawarra Flame Tree.
Yes, at this time of year, where thoughtful garden planners have done a beautiful thing, we get these two magnificent arboreal specimens flowering side by side, for a breathtaking deluge of colour.  And it's only a window of a couple of weeks.
These photos were all taken within a five minute walk of home in inner Sydney.
What more can I say?
Please enjoy.

"Harry's World" - Second printing - the books have arrived!

And they're here!!!

Yes, I had the pleasure yesterday of lugging 32 boxes (500 books) of Harry's World, the second printing, down to our storage cage in the basement.
And it's a milestone I'm very proud to have reached.  The first print run, also 500 books, is almost gone now - only 3 boxes left.

I wanted to distinguish between the different print runs (although they are not different editions, of course). To me, it makes the first print run something special, which it certainly was for me.  So the second print run copies will be marked as such on the administrative information page of the book.

A bit of author industry trivia on milestones...
(This is what I have read in publishing industry sources, anyway.)
In Australia, 90% of all books published sell less than 120 copies.
To be classed as a "best seller" in the Australian market, you need to sell 5,000+ copies.

So, having romped past the 120 mark quite a while ago, I'm delighted to be in the top 10%.
Now for "best seller" status...mmmmmm....

And since I fully intend to keep plugging away at the writing life until I am a best-selling author (those of you who know me well are aware of just how stubborn and peristent I am!), if you have a first printing edition of Harry's World, cherish it, as it may well be a collector's item one day!  There were only 500 of them.

Cheers.
